Our course

Want to learn tattooing from the very beginning and gain knowledge you can apply in real work?

Applications open · limited places

The course is designed for beginners, but also for those who already have some basic experience and want to improve their technique. The program is focused primarily on hands-on work, with direct mentorship and work in a professional tattoo studio.

Your lead mentor is Miroslav “Ciki” Maslar, a tattoo artist with more than 15 years of professional experience. During the course you can use the studio's equipment, so you can focus on learning and hands-on work without having to invest in a full set of equipment right away.

3
months of hands-on training in the studio
15+
years of your mentor's professional experience
0
prior experience needed – we start from the basics
5
techniques in focus – from Black & Grey to dotwork

The goal of the course isn't just to learn how to use a tattoo machine. The goal is to understand the whole tattooing process – from the idea and preparation, through the technique itself, to the finished tattoo and a professional relationship with the client.

Course program

From the first line to a finished piece

The program follows a logical order: foundations and safety first, then technique, and finally design and working with clients. Every module combines theory with hands-on practice in the studio.

  1. Understanding tradition and styles is the foundation of your own voice. You get to know the key directions, from traditional and Japanese to realism and dotwork, and learn to recognise and read them.

    • Origins and evolution of the tattoo
    • Overview of contemporary styles
    • Studio ethics and culture
    • How an artist builds a visual identity
  2. Before you pick up a machine, you learn how to work safely – for you and for the client. Hygiene is a standard that is never broken.

    • Sterilisation and workstation setup
    • Single-use materials and protection
    • Preventing infection and cross-contamination
    • Protocol before, during and after the session
  3. How rotary and coil machines work, how to choose needles for lining, shading and colour packing, and which inks give a stable result in skin.

    • Machine types and setup
    • Needle configurations and their use
    • Choosing inks and pigments
    • Voltage, speed and needle depth
  4. A clean, confident line is the first skill you build. You practise hand position, pressure and speed control – first on practice skin, then under your mentor's supervision.

    • Holding the machine and hand position
    • Straight, curved and continuous lines
    • Line weight and needle choice
    • Working from a stencil
  5. Transitions, gradients and texture – the techniques that separate an amateur from a professional. You learn how to build volume and a realistic look.

    • Whip shading and pendulum technique
    • Gradients and soft transitions
    • Working with diluted black tones
    • Contrast and readability of the tattoo
  6. How colour is packed into skin so it stays vivid for years. Layering, mixing pigments and working with light in realistic pieces.

    • Colour packing and layering
    • Mixing and blending colours
    • Light, shadow and photorealism
    • Avoiding the most common colour mistakes
  7. A tattoo starts on paper. You learn how to develop a design from the client's idea, adapt it to anatomy and transfer the stencil precisely.

    • Concept development and sketching
    • Composition and following anatomy
    • Making and applying the stencil
    • Planning cover-up projects
  8. Consultation, agreement and aftercare advice complete the process. You learn how to build trust and a portfolio that brings clients.

    • Consultation and managing expectations
    • Aftercare and client instructions
    • Photographing your work and building a portfolio
    • First steps towards your own career

What to know before applying

  • The course takes 3 months of hands-on training in the studio. We agree on the schedule at the introductory conversation.

  • Technique is built on practice skin first. Working on real skin comes when the mentor judges that your lines, hygiene and control are at the required level – always under supervision.

  • The fundamentals apply to every style, and during the course you get to know a range of tattoo styles. The focus is on Black & Grey and Color Realism, along with linework, shading and dotwork – the techniques most in demand today.
